--- title: The next mafia TV show is about… PayPal? - The Hustle description: We’ve seen shows about WeWork, Uber, and Theranos. Is the “PayPal Mafia” next? image: https://hs-sbup.thehustle.co/hubfs/The%20Hustle%20News/Assets/Images/376024582-HS-News-Brief_2022-08-30T230521.586Z.webp --- # The next mafia TV show is about… PayPal? ![Jacob Cohen](https://thehustle.co/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/IMG_5670-1-modified-768x768.png?width=48&height=48&name=IMG_5670-1-modified-768x768.png) [Jacob Cohen](https://hs-sbup.thehustle.co/author/jacob-cohen) [Jacob Cohen Twitter profile ](https://twitter.com/ImJacobCohen) Published: August 31, 2022 Updated: October 11, 2023 Bad news for the Sopranos and Corleones: PayPal’s former kingpins, known as the “PayPal Mafia,” could soon get a series of their own. ![The next mafia TV show is about… PayPal?](https://hs-sbup.thehustle.co/hs-fs/hubfs/The%20Hustle%20News/Assets/Images/376024582-HS-News-Brief_2022-08-30T230521.586Z.webp?width=595&height=400&name=376024582-HS-News-Brief_2022-08-30T230521.586Z.webp) A show about PayPal’s early days, where many of tech’s biggest names springboarded their careers, is being [tinkered](https://www.protocol.com/bulletins/paypal-the-founders-hollywood) with, per *Protocol*. - The project is based on Jimmy Soni’s book *The Founders*, the rights to which were acquired by production companies owned by PayPal old-timers David Sacks and Jack Selby. - This past weekend, at PayPal’s 20th IPO anniversary party, a crew reportedly recorded interviews for a pitch. The development comes as streamers make the tech rounds. In 2022 alone, we’ve seen Apple TV+’s “WeCrashed” (about WeWork), Showtime’s “Super Pumped” (Uber), and Hulu’s “The Dropout” (Theranos). A show we’d really like to see made, however, is one about Dan Chan, the early PayPal employee who got laid off, then became Silicon Valley’s [favorite magician](https://thehustle.co/silicon-valleys-favorite-magician-zoom-magic/).
