Between 2020 and 2021, the average US babysitting rate [jumped](https://www.businessinsider.com/babysitting-costs-rising-faster-than-inflation-2022-3) 11% to $20.57 an hour. ![The babysitting boom is here](https://hs-sbup.thehustle.co/hs-fs/hubfs/The%20Hustle%20News/Assets/Images/853048836-News-Brief_2022-03-04T020829.529Z.webp?width=595&height=400&name=853048836-News-Brief_2022-03-04T020829.529Z.webp) That means babysitting left the yearly [increases](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/12/higher-pay-eclipses-inflation-bite-for-some-.html) in both national average wage (4.7%) and inflation (7%) in the dust. It’s a major shift from the prior year’s 3.9% jump, and the result of a combo-punch of labor shortages and new, better-credentialed entrants like teachers and nurses.
