Currently, it’s kind of a boys club: - Only [~15%](https://www.yahoo.com/now/gender-disparity-cryptocurrency-trading-still-100007974.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMXWL9vxJyvYM0AqUsHGius0f4Cp3XJcdNIDeWAWUlTzzeVaHurRgxBvrgo1ztwLRF2SxMKJpcuqsAPOybEZNE6wkrwlElO0FEFGTKAmd_dSJ9wTWgsZUcr2uD-nBK9R87cvqLuMIBHQM2lE1DCJweSctihMRCCvbMu-djQ-UrXf#:~:text=Specifically%2C%20the%20percentage%20of%20women,highlighting%20a%20significant%20gender%20imbalance.) of Bitcoin and ~12% of Ethereum investors are women - Of the 121 founders of the top crypto companies, 5 are women - Men are [2x](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/30/cryptocurrency-has-a-big-gender-problem.html) as likely to invest in crypto as women - BlockFi found only [9%](https://www.worth.com/crypto-only-worsening-gender-gap/) of women say they understand cryptocurrency #### **Why aren’t women more involved?** *Cointelegraph* [spoke](https://cointelegraph.com/news/is-crypto-a-boys-club-the-future-of-finance-is-not-gendered) with several women in crypto, who cited issues including a lack of confidence in their knowledge about crypto for those who haven’t gotten on board, and harassment and subpar inclusion for those who have. Olayinka Odeniran told *The Information* she was inspired to launch the [Black Women Blockchain Council](https://bwbc.io/) — which trains and promotes Black women interested in blockchain and fintech — after attending the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami in 2018. Not only were most speakers white men — just 3 of 88 speakers were women — but its after-party was at a [strip club](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-01/a-bitcoin-conference-rented-a-miami-strip-club-regrets-ensued?sref=3Ac2yX40). Meanwhile, a woman [told](https://qz.com/1262167/the-first-rule-of-being-a-woman-in-crypto-is-you-do-not-talk-about-being-a-woman-in-crypto/) *Quartz* that she lost a speaking engagement to a man… about a subject she’d taught him. #### **But more women are moving into the space…** … and these groups are there to help those just getting started.
